Travellers with luggage at an airport

In short

From the airport, Duong Dong and Long Beach take about 10 to 25 minutes by car, Ong Lang 25 to 35 minutes, the south 25 to 40 minutes and the far north 45 to 60 minutes. Traffic and your hotel change the figure.

The airport is quickest for Duong Dong and Long Beach, at about 10 to 25 minutes by car. Ong Lang takes 25 to 35 minutes, the south, including An Thoi and Sunset Town, takes 25 to 40 minutes, and the far north takes 45 to 60 minutes. Figures differ by route, hotel and traffic, so message us on WhatsApp to confirm your exact drive before you book.

How long is the drive to Duong Dong and Long Beach?

Duong Dong town is the closest and easiest area to reach, about 10 to 15 minutes from the airport on clear roads. The airport sits just south of the town, so the main route is short and direct. Some estimates for the same drive give 15 to 25 minutes once traffic builds up, so plan for the longer figure at busy times.

Distances also differ between sources, from about 10 km to 14.5 km. One source puts the drive to Duong Dong at roughly twenty minutes of driving, which sits inside the range above.

Long Beach (Bai Truong) is about 10 to 20 minutes from the airport, depending on the hotel. A hotel in the middle of the beach is around 12 minutes by car. Ham Ninh and the east coast are about 19 minutes away, so they fall in the same easy band as Long Beach.

How long is the drive to Ong Lang and the south?

Ong Lang is about 25 to 35 minutes from the airport. The drive is still easy, but the area sits a bit further north than Duong Dong, so expect a longer ride than to town.

The south of the island, including An Thoi, Sunset Town and Khem Beach, is about 25 to 40 minutes from the airport. Traffic can push the drive toward the longer end. Coming back from the south, allow about 40 minutes for the ride to the airport, and leave more room if your flight is early in the morning.

Bai Sao, one of the southern beaches, sits further from the airport than Duong Dong. The southern beaches and the cable car station are both further out than Duong Dong as well. Our notes do not give an exact drive time for Bai Sao, so ask us on WhatsApp for a figure before you book.

How far is the north coast and Ganh Dau?

The north is the longest transfer on the island. Areas such as Bai Dai and the resort complexes in the north are about 45 to 60 minutes from the airport. If you stay there, plan the whole day around that drive, especially if you have a flight to catch.

Ganh Dau is about 36.1 km from the airport. A transfer there takes about 59 minutes. The time depends on the vehicle you choose and the traffic on the day, so ask for the drive time from your exact pickup point rather than the area name.

What slows the drive down?

Four things change how long the ride takes, and most of them are outside your control:

  • Evening rush hour around Duong Dong, when the roads through town fill up. This is the slowdown to plan for first, because it adds time on the last stretch into town.
  • Traffic on the day, which varies with the vehicle you choose and the route you take.
  • Where your hotel sits. The island is short in distance, but resorts are spread out, so a hotel in the north or the south means a much longer drive than one in Duong Dong.
  • Night travel, heavy rain and Tet, when fares rise. Clear roads give the shorter times in the ranges above, so ask for the price in the chat before you pay if your trip falls in one of these periods.

Some operators include waiting time if your flight is delayed. Ask whether your quote does before you pay.

Which area is closest for your hotel?

The table gives the guide drive time from the airport for each main area. Read it against your hotel’s location, not just the area name, because one area can cover a wide stretch of coast.

AreaDrive from the airportWhat to know
Duong Dong townabout 10 to 25 minutesClosest and easiest; evening rush adds time
Long Beach (Bai Truong)about 10 to 20 minutesA hotel in the middle is about 12 minutes away

Ong Langabout 25 to 35 minutesEasy drive, a bit further north

North: Bai Dai and northern resortsabout 45 to 60 minutesLongest transfer on the island
Ganh Dauabout 59 minutesAbout 36.1 km from the airport

Figures differ by operator and by traffic, so treat them as guide times for planning a buffer, not as a promise to the minute. For an early flight or a late landing, leave more room than the middle of the range.
